Lecuona and the Honda HRC team test at Misano, Vierge focuses on his recovery
Ahead of the upcoming Emilia Romagna WorldSBK round, the Honda HRC team has completed a constructive two-day test at Italy’s Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” with factory rider Iker Lecuona.
Lecuona made full use of the test session, which took place in almost ideal conditions on Tuesday 27 May — aside from a few drops of rain towards the end — and continued under sunnier, warmer skies on Wednesday 28.
The Spaniard was joined in the garage by Tommy Bridewell, who worked hard to support and supplement the factory squad’s work. Together with his technicians, Lecuona continued from where he had left off at the latest round, working on set-up and electronics. Wednesday proved equally productive. Iker and his squad had the chance to work more in depth on the bike’s setup — something he has not been able to do, so consistently, since October last year. Again, the results were promising at the end of another busy day on track.
Still recovering from surgery, team-mate Xavi Vierge was unfortunately unable to test this week. During the final race of the recent Czech Round, a blameless Vierge was caught up in a multi-rider collision at Turn 1, which left him requiring surgery to treat a multiple fracture of the cuboid bone in his right foot. He is now focusing on his recovery and on being back in action as soon as possible.
The sixth round of the WorldSBK Championship will see the Honda HRC team return to the Misano World Circuit on 13–15 June.

“I'm quite happy overall. I know it may sound a bit strange but this was actually my first proper full test of the season so far, including the winter period when I was always injured or recovering. We had two days to 'play' with our base setup, making a few adjustments. Over a race weekend, we’ve sometimes experimented with a few things during FP2 but often ended up losing the entire session. On Tuesday, we started with the base setup we used at Cremona and Most, making minimal changes to address the front-end drop issue we typically encounter towards the end of races, and the results were promising. Even on well-worn tires, I felt comfortable and was among the fastest, consistently riding solo, even on the second bike. Of course we must consider that the grip was excellent with perfect temperatures—not too hot or cold—so conditions certainly helped. On Wednesday, temperatures were slightly warmer, and we struggled a bit once the grip deteriorated during the hottest part of the day. Still, I'm satisfied with the effort we put in to mitigate the issue. At the end of the day, we switched to two soft tyres and managed some decent laps. I'm pleased with our progress and am looking forward to seeing how things go when we return in a few weeks, likely in different conditions."

“It’s a real shame not to have the chance to test in Misano with my team, but the good news is that everything is going well with my recovery after surgery on my right foot. I’m fully committed to the process, working daily with the hyperbaric chamber and sticking closely to medical guidance. After my latest check-up, the medical team has given me the green light to start additional treatments like the Indiba machine (a 448 kHz radiofrequency therapy used to speed up tissue healing), aimed at accelerating the recovery. I’m also back in the gym, though without putting weight on my foot for now, which is a positive step forward. Next Monday, June 2, I’ll have another check-up and a scan, and if everything is progressing as expected, I’ll start gradually putting some weight on my foot to see how it responds. Recovery feels slower than I’d like, but it’s actually moving quicker than initially anticipated, so I just have to be patient, stick to the plan, and focus on returning as quickly as possible.”
